What’s the Point?

There’s a lot of writing on the Internet. Probably too much. So what’s the point of adding more?

Probably not too much.

But this project is an outlet for me for education and creativity and accountability. Education because creating content for the web is something new for me, and I like learning about things. Creativity because I’d like to find ways to communicate about my passion (more on that in a minute). And accountability because sticking with things that aren’t requirements isn’t my strong suit. It’s a character flaw, freely admitted, but even at this later stage in life it’s something I hope I can get better at. As my passion is growing, I hope that developing this project will grow my character.

So what is this passion? Helping people think better about their faith. Solid, text-based, deep thinking about Christian faith has for a long time been relegated to the academics and the apologists. These have their roles, but vast majority of Christians, especially young Christians, don’t live in those realms. They live in the real world or practicality, of the hustle-bustle of career and family life, of the daily rhythms that we all follow. Those people need theology too because they face the same pressures and doubts and onslaught of criticism that drives people to leave the faith, either by active deconstruction or passive neglect. That isn’t how it should be! Following Jesus, following the Way, is made for the rhythms of daily life. Thinking well about faith–nothing could be more practical.

I’ll write more about my story as time goes on, but I’m an attorney and a seminarian with a passion for the Christian faith. This project is to help me grow and be more active in seeking out opportunities to put the talents I’ve been given to good use. And hopefully, along the way, someone else might be built up.
